GM Guide
A Comprehensive Guide for the Fate's Edge Game Master
How to use this book
Use this book in two passes: prepare the shared procedures before play, then consult the chapter that matches the situation at the table. The appendices collect tools that are easier to use once those procedures are familiar.
- Before the first session: Introduction, then Core Procedures, then Session Zero Checklist. Establish how the group will play and what the opening session needs.
- Preparing a situation: Running Scenarios, then Campaigns Timers Consequences. Use the setting and the characters’ choices to give the situation direction.
- During play: Managing Resources, then Magic and Backlash, then Core Reference Tables. Look up the relevant costs, consequences, and procedure in context.
- Bringing in specialist material: Using Expansions and Adversary Templates, then Optional Rules and Tactical Tools. Read each tool’s scope and explicitly stated changes before applying it.
